            you must excuse me for not riting to you before I hav not been able to do so. My wound is not well yet and will not bee for some time to come. I had a letter from home a few days ago they were all well. they say they hav not had any letter from you for some time they want to here from you they want you & my self to come home but I can not go they will / not let me go & I do not want to go for I will bee a Lieutenant by going to the Regiment in a short time & then I can go home any time I wish to. A Hospl is one of the worst places I hav ever been in Men rot down here from the want of care We hav small pox & evry other disease here there has over 100 died since I hav been in this Hospt I never want to get in any one again. You must rite to me soon I understand we will be scent up the river If we do I will let you know you can rite / to me I will rite to you again and let you know where I am if we are moved from here we will go up the river some where I cannot tell where

Sunday 26. we are moving to day, we are going up to muligons bend, 12 miles from here. direct your letters as usual James Miller died at memphis the 15. Monday 27. we will get 2 months pay to day. I will send it home if I have a chance I think we will leave here in a day or two. we will go to carthridge about 50 miles by land it is on the river below vixburg

I have just got a gold dollar of Mr J Murray which I will send to Lillie as a present. I want she should keep it until I come home.
