you say you have aplied for a school. I am glad you have if you dont go to illinois, but Mary I dont want you to put it off on account of what mother has writen I do not believe she ment eny harm, if she did I would excuse her. I doubt if she recolects what she she has writen. in my last letter I told you that my eyes were sore. they are geting some beter. they bother me about writing yet but I think they will get beter in a fiew days. Mary I want you should take good care of clarence & tell me how he looks, is he poor or not. how I would like to see them, but I cannot, so I must be content with my lot & I believe I am as much so as eny other man in the company. / our regiment has just got back & I am expecting a letter from you. I ma be disapointed but I hope not. the health of our company is good with the exception of three or four. Thomas Mitchel is some beter I think he will be sent up the river next week. I think I will write to henry to morow. the mail goes out monday. may this find you all well. I am fat & harty as ever I have been. the weather is very warm here now, as warm as it is in iowa in July. it makes the boys crall for the shade. no more this time. tell John & Josa to write to me. tell Lillie to be a good girl & study her book.
