Oliver W. Shibley to Mary C. Shibley, 4 August 1863
August 4th/1863

Dear Mollie,
It is with pleasure that I write a fiew lines to you. I am as well as common. Vrooman is geting beter, Landon is sick, he has the bilious fever I think he is some beter this morning Since I commensed this letter some of our boys are geting furlows. the papers have not come yet so I cant say who will go. I received a letter from you yesterday dated the 19. I was glad to hear that your health was improving & the rest all well, for good health is worth more than money. the Captain says in 15 days some more can go. if I can get a furlow I think I will come home, but I dont expect to get one, for there are others that he thinks more of than he does of me, but thare is one thing sertain I dont ask eny favers of him. he cant make me do eny duty, neither can he make me come out to roll call, / so you see I am rather independent & I think he dont like it much, for he is a man that likes to order others as well as eny man I ever saw. the boys dont like him. those verses you sent me I think are very good. I apresiate them much.

I will write a fiew lines to Henry about that drum. he can send it with some of our boys. they will go & see him about it & will pay him for it if they have the money to spair. in your last letter I found two sheets of paper & 2 stamps you ned not send me eny more blank paper, for I have plenty of it. you can send all you have a mind to if it is well writen over & I will receive it with pleasure.

August the 8, /63 Dear Mollie I have waited 4 days for our boys to start home. their furlows returned this morning not sined. some of the companies have sent 5 men & the regiment cant send send but 20 at one time, so that leaves 2 or 3 that cant send eny at this time. in 15 days they have a chance to send some more & then I think we will stand a chance to go. we had a mail to day & no letter for me I was very much disapointed. I am well & harty & thank god for it. thare is a greateal of sickness here now Vrooman is not very good well.
