Dear Mollie
I once more take my pen to adress a fiew lines to you. we have had another march of 25 miles. we got here yesterday afternoon & will stay here a week or two. I think we will go from here to Chatanuga or some whare on the railroad. this road runs from Memfis to Chatanuga & has to be guarded all the way through. this has been a nice town but the union soldiers are using it up. the sitizans have all left but two or three famelies & they look as though they had seen hard times. the rebels have distroyed this railroad all they could, unkle sam is repairing it & intends to use it for transpertation for his soldiers. / we was told last night that thare was a small force of rebel cavelry east of here distroying the railroad. our regiment & one or two others have gone out to clean them out. they have got the road finished so that the cars run within 4 miles of this place. I think we will move on east as fast as they repair the road as far as our corps can guard it.
well Mary our regiment has got back. they went out about 5 miles & came across the rebs. our cavelry chased them about a mile but could not overhall them so they came back. well Mary I have not had a letter since the one Landon brought me, but I did not expect after we started on a march. I think we will have a mail in a day or two & then I will look for a letter & if I dont get one I will be very much disapointed.

the boys that are with us are all well. Landon & Vrooman are harty & I am as well as eny of them. I feel first rate & hope I may as long as I am in the service, for thare is nothing like good health. well Mary what do you think of this wars ending. I think we are good for a year more if not longer some think it will end between this & spring but I dont think so. Mary who is John agoing to vote for for govener. I shall vote for Stone. he is considered the best man by the most of the soldiers. monday morning, 12 the mail is going out this morning so I cant write eny more this time, may this find you all well, from your husband, O Shibly
