Dear Mollie,
I received a letter from you to day writen the 6 & 7, No 34. the last one before this was 31, so you see thare are two missing, that acounts for my not geting eny letters from you. I think they will come yet. I wrote to you the 2, 9 & 12, & I made up my mind not to write eny more until I heard from you, but your letter came in time. I was glad to hear from you all & so was Landon. you made quite a viset over the river & enjoyed it I hope. I enjoy my self as well as can be expected for a soldier. thare are a great many that enjoys a soldiers life, but I cant say that I do. those that have no famelies to think of can do well enough. you said nothing about the health / the health of your self & family but I supose you are all well or you would have spoken about it. my health is very good now & I feel as well as I ever did. Vrooman is geting better. the health of our regiment is very good now. I was mistaken in the date of my letter, to day is the 17. the weather has been pleasent since we have been here until last night the wind blew cold & about 8 oclock it commenced raining & rained all night this morning it is cold, but not enough to freeze. it makes me think of the cold snow storms in Iowa. I supose you have a plenty of it by this time. I wrote to you a fiew days ago about some money. I sent you 30 dollars. I sent it to John. I thought perhaps you would not be thare & if not he could send it to you. in my last letter / I sent 20 cts to the children for a christmas preasent. you can buy them some candy for it. theare is some talk of our going to huntsvill from here but it looks to me as though we would stay here, for General Logan is building a house & I think he knows.
well Mary I am not agoing to write much this time for it is to cold. I wrote Mother a letter on the 12 & I will write to your mother as soon as I can & you can do the same.
