Dear Mollie,
I received a letter from you yesterday dated the 7 & mailed the 11. I was glad to hear that you was all well. I wrote you a letter the 19 & 20. I dont expect to write much to day, but a short letter would be beter than none. this is a very fine morning & reminds me of puting in crops. how I wish I could be thare this spring to help John farm this year. I think I could make as much as I do soldiering & would like it agreat eal better, but thare is hope. I think one year more will tell the story, so we live in hope. I wrote to you about the 9 in my last letter. they start for Iowa monday or tuesday. I expect they will have a great time, for they draw over $200 dollars a piece. I would like to go with them if I could stay thare, but as it is, I would rather not go. you spoke in your letter about trading my gun to henry frink for a cow. will she live until spring, & does John think she is worth the gun. will he keep her for you, if so, you had better traid. that delane you sent me will make a very nice dress & if you are as near out of dresses as you say I think you had beter be geting some. you say you paid that boy or rather Sol Garison. I am glad you did so. have you got enything to show for it. I think you have, but I thought I would ask the question. I expect by the time I get home you will / will be quite a buisness man. you spoke about grandma Aldrich. I am sory to hear that she is sick. she is geting old & I am afraid I will never see her again. I hope she will be well by the time I get another letter. tell her I send her my best respects & hope we may both live to meet again. she has been like a mother to me & I would like to see her again.

I wrote to Henry the first day of Jan & if he has not got back yet the letter will be rather old. I told him to let you read it. thare may be some news in it that I have not writen to you. well Mary I cant write much this time.

I am well & harty & may this find you all the same. kiss the children for me. god bless them I hope I can see them again befor long.
so no more this time

From your affectionate husband now & for ever
