Oliver W. Shibley to Mary C. Shibley, 9 February 1864
No. 50.
Tuesday the 9, /64

Well Mary we have had 2 mails since I commenced this letter & none for me, so I concluded to write some more to day. it is very lonesome here now. the most of our regiment went out foraging yesterday with three days rations. I think they will have a fight before they get back. the rebs are reported to be this side of the river. if they are the boys will make them scadadel.

we had some good news yesterday. we heard that Mobeal has surrendered to Sherman. I hope it is so, if it is we will hear more about it in a day or two. this war looks more like closing now than it ever has before. I think this summer will finish it. we hope it may. the cars have just come in & I shall look for a letter. I will not send this until I hear from you.

well Mary this the 12 & no letter yet. if I knew you had gone to / Illinois I would finish this & send it. Sunday Feb 14. well Mary I got your letter to day, No 45. I was glad to hear from you again. I have not heard from you since the 2 of this month & I suposed you was in Illinois before this time or I would have sent this before now. if you dont start soon I think you will stay until next spring for the roads will soon begin to be bad & then you cannot move atall. you spoke in your letter about the viset you had at Kates. you had a good time of it. I wish Len & myself could have come in about the time your supper was ready I think we could have done it justice. I let Len read your letter, he thinks Kate had was taken by surprise & laughed about it a considerable. you spoke about the girls on the [?], I think they are fond of dried apels. I hope they will get all they want.
