Dear Mollie,
I wrote you a letter the 23 no 51 I directed it to clarence but I think you will get it. I received your letter writen the 7 no 46. it was finished at the station. you said you was ready to start, so I supose you are in Illinois. I hope you had good luck & a pleasent ride. how did the children like the ride & what did they say about it. you did not tell me about your things. did you take them with you or not. what did John & Josa say about your going. Mary I know you have some friends thare that will be glad to see you & our children what does mother say about my boy she has never seen him, but I know / she will say he is a fine boy. I think he is hard to beat, dont you. well enough of that. tell Mother I have writen 2 letters to her since I have heard from her, if she cant write I should think she could get some of the children to write for her. I wrote her Dec the 13 & to your mother January 10. I have not heard from them yet. in my letter to Mother I spoke about Mary. I would like to hear from her. she is a young woman & I trust will assist & comfort her Mother in her old days of sorow & trouble. thare is another, O may god protect her & relieve her of that awful disease. could I but see her once more, but I am afraid not. write & tell me how she is, better I hope but I am afraid not. I have not heard from Dow since we left Bridgeport. I dont no whare the second Division is I will write to him

I havent much news to write this time. we are having brigade drill to day. this is the finest weather I ever saw for winter. the roads are dry & dusty. thare is a prospect of our staying here for some time. our Division is badly cut up. 2 regiments have gone home & one or 2 more are going in a day or two. they are veterens. we wer paid yesterday. I will not send you eny money until I hear from you & then I will send it in letters. I will send you some on the new postage currensy it looks very nice. well Mary I hope you are enjoying your self with your old friends & sit down to the table to partake of the good things. some times think of me & it will be as well as though I was thare.

no more this time, my best wishes to all who may inquire, tell them to write to me

this will not go out until to morow, perhaps I can write some more. I am well & harty. may this find you all the same.
