Dear Mollie,
I received your letter yesterday writen the 18, & mailed the 22. I did not look for a letter so soon, but I was hapily disapointed. I want you to write once a week & as much oftener as you can. now dont forget it, you can find plenty to write about. I wrote you a letter the 27 stating that I would send you some money as soon as I heard from you. I will send $5.00 in this. I think it will be safe for your letter came through in less than six days. I will also send you some songs. you spoke about Cousin Em, I am glad you have met again & hope you will enjoy your selves as you use to. tell Em that I apresiate her kindness / & in return send her my best wishes, hoping we may sone day meet again. you spoke about Alfreds folks, whare are they living & what are they doing. I want you to write about them all. tell Alfred if that is the best he can do for his country I think he had better give it up, for such boys wont put down the rebellion. you say thare is a spell on your writing, I should think you could stop talking long anough to write me a letter. you spoke about Mother, how is her health & how is she geting along & whare does she live. you must make her a good long viset. you spoke about the changes that have been made since we left thare. it is so, thare has been a great change thare, but reflect for one moment on our brave boys in the field after even one bloody batle, thar you can see a change / yes a change of sorow & desolation. I hope I may never see eny more for I have seen anough. tell your Mother I am glad she got my letter. I was afraid she had not got it. I have not heard from her for a long time. I am glad to hear that she is well & would like to have her write to me.
well Mary, we have just been mustered for pay, we muster the last day of every two months. well I cannot write eny more this time. the mail is going out in a short time & I will close by biding you all good by.
From yours as ever
