Oliver W. Shibley to Mary C. Shibley, 24 April 1864
No. 62.
Woodville, Ala
April 24th /64
Dear Mollie,
I received your letter of the 15 this morning. you said you had not got the likeness I sent I am afraid you will not, for thare are a great many lost. you say you will send me one drum head. you will see in the next letter that I want two. you must have it before this time. never mind the money, if you havent got it I hope you can borow it. I will send you some money in a fiew days. you must have very disagreable weather & a backward spring. we have had a considerable rain the past two weeks. it rained last night but is warm & pleasent to day.
I am sory to hear that your mother is sick I hope she will get along without much sickness / you spoke about Chauncey he has got some ways from home I hope he will have good health for that is every thing in the army. I have not heard from Dow yet. we have orders to be ready to march at eny time & I dont expect to see him very soon unless it is on the march. we may stay here a week & we may leave to morow. you might ask the question whare are we going. that is of no use, for we never know until we get thare. you say Lime & Guy are at Little Rock. Guy is in good buisness if he has eny kind of luck with his goods he will soon make him self rich. if this war continues after my time is out I am going in to something to make up loss time for I am loosing money every day. you want me to write often. I think I have done very well. I will / write as often as I can. if we go on a march you cannot expect as many letters as you are now geting. Mary I have writen in one or two of my letters to have sister Mary write to me. I never have heard from her, cant she write or dont she wanto write to me. if she dont I would like to know it, then I will no what to do. I think Foy is taking a greadeal of pains for his son. Watts was a good boy, but no better than thousands that have died in the army. I think he could use his money to a good advantage without puting it in to a fence & coffen. how is he geting along. I might know without asking, he is the same old devel. & Frank I supose he is as lasy as ever. I dont no as I have much more to write this time I am well & harty. the boys / are all well except Vrooman, he has the ague nearly every day. I am afraid he wont stand it this summer for he has not been well since last fall. no more this time only send those heads as soon as you can.
good by, from yours as ever,
To Mollie C Shibly
