Dear Mollie
It has been some time since I heard from you & I now take the time to write a fiew lines to you. the last letter I had from you was writen at Thomas Bennets. I expect thare are letters for me with the regiment. I have not been with it for more than a week. I was detailed at the hospital when the fight commenced & that was on the 12. they were strongly fortified & had were about 7500 strong. I cant tell you much about the fight for I havent time. they keep me on the move night & day. we whiped them here & now are after them. some of our forces got in to rome before they did / we had a fight with them about 40 miles from here. Sherman means to get to Atlanta as soon as Johnson does. I cant tell you any thing about the loss on our side, but it was a considerable. the rebs was more than double. well I must stop for the present as it is noon & the wounded want their dinner.

Friday 20th I will write a litle more this afternoon as we expect to go to the front in the morning & establish an other hospital the wonded are sent north as fast as they are able to go. thare are a great many amputations, more than I have ever seen for the same number of men. the rebs shot much lower than they use to. we captured some of their stores, five hundred head / of beef cattle, which comes very good at preasent. I saw Dow when we were coming out here but have not heard from him since the fight. his division moved when ours did & I have not heard from eny of them. our regiment was very lucky again, we lost but a fiew men not eny from our company that I know of. I cant write eny more this time. I am well & harty & may this find you all the same. I write this to you all. I will write again as soon as I can. I dont expect you can read this for it has been writen in a hurry.

so good by From yours
as ever, To Mollie C Shibly
