Dear Mollie
I take the opertunity to write a fiew lines. the mail is going out this afternoon. we are having warm times. the rebs made a charge yesterday all along our lines & they were repulsed with very heavy loss. we have fortified all along our lines & when they advanced within two hundred yards we opened on them they fell like grass before the sithe. our bateries poured grape & canester in to them which piled up four & five deep. it is very still at preasent except some skermishing. we are expecting them to make another charge this afternoon. I think they will get what they did yesterday. well I understand that thare is no / mail going out, so thare is no use of writing eny more. well Mary the order was just countermanded so I will finish my letter. we are within 25 of atlanta & the rebs are bound we shant get thare, but we are bound to go through we have had about as hard fighting here as I ever saw & lost the least men. the rebs loss is estermated at four thousand. I think it is more. the charge was made at four oclock. I saw Dow yesterday he is well not very well he said he would not go in the fight. our brigade was not in. we were relieved yesterday morning & when the charge was made we were run about one & a half mile on the right flank, but the rebs were repulsed before we got thare. they are trying hard to flank us, but I think they will meet with a warm reception. well I cant write eny more this time. I hope / I can soon write again, but thare is no telling. So good by, I am well & hope you are, so no more.
