Dear Mollie,
I received your letter of the 28, the 8. I wrote one the 7 so I thought I would wait a fiew days. I got a letter from Dow the 12, he said his health was improving some. he said he had writen to you 2 days before, so you know how he is as well as I do. he sent me the letter you wrote him last also a sheet of paper & stamp. well Mary we have not done much since I last wrote. we are laying in the same place yet. I think we will move in a day or two. I think we will move to the right, for that is the way that Sherman moves. thare has been no fighting for the past week, except skermishing. / there is plenty of that every day.

Friday 19th
thare is not much being done now so I cannot write a very long letter thare was an advance made on the right yesterday, but with what sucess I cannot say. I have been looking for a letter from you for three or four days. it has not come, so I thought I would finish this & send it to morow. I have not been very well for nearly two weeks but am well now. this is geting to be one of the most teageous campains of the war. thare is no telling when it will end. I hope it will not be long, for we want some rest & money. I know you want money for it has been a long time since I sent you eny. we will get six months pay & I think I will send you 70 dollars. I have been thinking about our afairs in Iowa for some time / you never told me how you left things thare. did you settle with John before you left, & have you eny thing to show for the money you paid him. Mary I ask you this for my satisfaction & your good. such a thing might hapen that I never would get back & then it would be well to have every thing straight. well I dont no as I have much more to write this time I supose you have heard that Mrs. John Ferguson is maried. she was maried the 10 of July. Will dont like it much, he thinks she dont show much respect for his father. it is very strange that women should get maried so soon after loosing their husbands in the army. thare are a great many geting maried. the boys are all well Landon & Vrooman inquire after you very often. no more this time only my best wishes to our mothers. to Mollie
