Dear Mollie
I am glad to have the opertunity the opertunity of writing to you again. I have not writen since the 24 of last month & I supose you will think that I am dead or a prisoner, but I am yet safe. I received a letter from you yesterday writen the 21. I am glad to hear that you are all well & hope you are doing well. well Mary I supose you have heard before this time that Atlanta is ours, on the 28 Sherman moved the most of his army to the right, leaving the 20th Corps in the rear of the city. old Hood was compelled to draw his forces from thare to protect his rear but he was to late, we cut two railroads, the montgomery / & Macon road, that cut off all their communication & then we had a big fight. the 23 corps struck the road first, when the enemy atacted them. they were repulsed with heavy loss. the next day they atacted us again, their loss was heavy in killed & wounded. we captured a large number of prisoners & 17 pieces of artilery. this fight was near Jonesborough 20 miles south of Atlanta. this is considered one of the bigest moves of the war. they charged on us the third of this month & were repulsed. we charged on them the same day & caried their works. they were compelled to pull back. we folowed them about four miles & then returned. we are now about six miles from atlanta. we are going into camp near here & I think we will move this afternoon or in the morning

I am glad this campain is over for we have had a long & teageous time of it. it is generaly suposed that that we will not have much rest this fall. well we have one consolation, this is the last fall campain they will get out of us. well Mary I will finish this this afternoon. the mail is going out in the morning & I wanto write to Dow. I received a letter from him to day he is at Rome. he did not say eny thing about his health. I will send you his letter. he has writen two since I wrote to him.
I will write again in a fiew days if I can. I am well & so is the most of the company. Vroomans health is very good at preasent. no more this time from yours as ever,
to Mollie C Shibly
