Dear Mollie,
I have not had a letter from you since the 21 of Sept. we have not had a mail in almost a week. the railroad has been cut once or twice & it was not very safe. Sherman has sent some troops back & we will be all right in a fiew days. we had a general review last friday. yesterday the 17 corps moved to the right the rebs are reported to be moving that way. they are trying to go to blue mountain in Alabama. I think they will have something to do before they get thare. our army has been reorganised. the 15 corps has one division from the 16 corps & the 17 corps has one. thare was but two divisions of the 15 here, it has made a change all round. we have 5 regiments in our brigade / the 4, 9, 25, 30, & 31. it is the Iowa brigade, the best in the world. it is now the third brigade. we have three brigades in our division. I have not had a letter from Dow for some time. one of our boys came from Rome the other day. he said he was well & was doing dooty. I think we will move before many days

Dear Mollie
we are now camped near Rome, Ga. I have not had a chance to write for two weeks. Dow is here he came from Rome to see me. he brought me some tobacco & let me have ten dollars. he has had his pay & sent home 100 dollars he says he will let me have $50 for you & when we get our pay I will pay him. you will get the money of mother & when you will pay her as soon as I send you the money I cannot write eny more this time for Dow is going back & will take this with him. he will write in / this to Mother about the money we are after the enemy & thare is no telling whare we will go. I received 2 letters from you last night, one the 22 & the other the 29 of sept the first I have had for some time. I will send that letter in this the one you got from the east, you can write all you have a mind to to the soldiers & I will do the same to the widows. my health is very good & I am glad to hear that you are so fat. I hope you will continue to be so. no more this time from yours as ever, this was writen in a hurry & you must excuse poor writing.

I want you to let Mary Olivers Wife have $50 dollars of my money so that she can go East Oliver has not been payed off and I have, and when he is payed he will pay me or hav Mary his wife pay it when he sends it to her. And you may use some of it your self. There has been a furlough made out for me and I expect to be at home inside of two weeks. You must not write to me untill you here from me again
