Dear Mollie,
It is reported that we move monday, so I concluded to commence a letter to day & finish it to morow. we have encouring news here to day, we heard that General Lee was captured with twelve thousand prisoners five hundred peaces of artilery & richmond is ours. I hope it is so, but I am afraid the story is to good to be true. we know that Grant has taken Peters Burg with a large number of prisoners & considerable artilery Some of our generals wanto bet a thousand dollars that peace will be declared in less than three months

Sunday Morning 9th
it is confirmed that Richmond is ours with thirty thousand prisoners. the enemy was runing in all directions. Grant & Sherden were after them in hot persute. Lee has lost his strong hold & Grant will soon use him up. our loss is estimated at about seven thousand the rebs from 15 to 20 thousand. they have had a big time at Washington over the Victory. last night we had a salute of one hundred guns last night it made the ground shake under our feet. thare is no use of my saying eny more about it I presume you have heard all the news before this. it is suposed that we are going to Rollie from here. it is about 50 miles.

I have not had a letter from you since the second I wrote on the third & thought I would wait until I heard from you again. we have had mail nearly every day but nothing for me. I thought I would write to day for it may be the last for some time. I went to the 2 Division the other day to see if Dow had come but he has not. they have not heard from him. I supose he is in NY yet. some of our boys are thare & it may be he is.

the boys are all well & enjoy them selves fine. we had a barrel of potatoes the other day & they were good. they reminded me of some we use to raise. I think another year will bring me whare I can have a plenty to eat & eat it when I please.

I have no more to write this time that I can think of. my health is very good & may this find you all well & harty, is all that I can ask

From yours as ever
To Mollie C Shibly
