Dear Mollie,
I thought I would write a fiew lines this morning to let you know that I am yet alive & well. this may be the last chance I will have to write to you. we left Raleigh N.C. the first of may & got here yesterday morning. we marched through in 8 days a distence of 2 hundred miles. we stoped one day in Petersburg. we are within 3 miles of Richmond. we are to march through the city to morow on our way to Washington. we are on the west side of the James river & will cross it in the morning. it is about one hundred miles to the later place.

I have not had a leter from you since the 23 of April. we had a small mail this morning but thare was nothing for me. it is expected that we will get to Washington the 1 of June. I think we will get through before that time. the whole army will be reviewed by Grant before it is disbanded. well Dow has come so I will close. from yours as ever,
O Shibly
