Oliver W. Shibley to Mary C. Shibley, 6 August 1865
Dayton,
Sunday, August 6th /65

Dear Mollie,
I received a letter from you friday. I was glad to hear that you was all well I have not had eny chance to write until to day I am sory Lyma & Leroy were disapointed. I would like seen them. tell Mother Coryell that my health is better than it was when I came home. I think working in harvest is helping me so I think I will keep at it & become a steady boy again. I have been helping John & Jobes. the weather has been very wet since I have been here. John has his oats to cut yet he will cut them / to morow or nex day.

Henry was here & stayed all night. he is the same as ever his famly is well & so are his neighbors. I expected you would send that acount in your letter but it seams not. I wanto setle up that note as soon as I can & stop interest. I expect the note & interest will be over fifty dollars I think about sixty. I have about come to the conclution to have you come out here next week or as soon as you can & live here at Johns this winter. I can fix the shanty so that it will be comfortable & we can have our beds upstairs. if we dont sell I will build a house next spring & John & my self will work together. I will get out fensing this winter & fence with John for the preasent. if I had a team I could get all the land I could work / I dont no how to mange for a team. if I had the money to buy a yoke of catle I could get along until I could do better. I think I can get a team to plow my breaking this fall & that will be a help in the spring.

I have been a thinking about them colts of mothers. if she dont work a farm next year I think she had beter let me have them gray colts they can do some work next spring & they will be taken care of. I will take them for two or three years & will raise colts. I will agree to return them as good as they are now or let her have colts the same age or buy them & pay what they are worth now. grain to feed them this winter & nex spring will cost them a greadeal, as for keeping a team so poor that they can hardly walk I never would do. /

Mother Shibly I have writen some in this to you about those gray colts I told you what I would do now make up your mind & let me know what you will do when Mary writes again. if you will let me have them with the wagon & harness I will come after them before Mary comes out. Mother I know how it is thare, you think you have no one to depend on thare & so you havent. every thing is gone except those colts & two or three cows. two years more & you wont have a hoof to your name. now if you will let me have them to get a start, I will do by you as I said. I will do more I will make you the offer I dont expect you will except it. if you think you can live with Mary you will be welcom to come at eny time as soon as we can get a house of our own. no more this time.
from Oliver
