Hale July the 7th 63
Dear Friend Mary
I Recd your communication of June 18th in due time. was glad to hear from you. I recd a letter from Leonard to day written June the 19th and 21st the boys were well and in good spirits at the time he wrote they were still waiting for the Rebels to surrender Leonard wrote. he had not recd a letter from me since the 20th of May it is to bad the mail is so irregular I write every week
I got two letters from him the next day after I or we was over to see you one written the 26th and 28 the other the 6th of June so I have heard from him or Oscar every week. it is rumored here that the rebels have surrendered. oh how I do hope it is true, but fear it is not from all accts the rebels have made a raid into Pennsylvania, and they are also fighting hard there. I hope the north will be successful enough to get / troops enough to drive them from there or capture every one of them, which would be far better. I have written to Leonard since dark I judge it is after eleven Oclock, for to night
Mary was vary sick last week with Neuralogy in her head and a very sore throat. She was unable to keep school but is better this week. went to school again this morning
the children are quite well Adelbert has had only one / sick spell since we were over there. I hope this will find yourself and family well, also Mrs Aldrich and family. the neighbours here are usuly well, as far as I know. they say there is going to be a wedding here before many days. I guess it is only a hoax, uncle George T goes to Mrs Sweets occasionaly, that is all. what do think of that Marsha is liveing at Mrs Austins Leonard spoke in his last letter of Maj Carpenter saying he seen him the day before. his health is poor
