Friend Mollie it is with pleasure that I once more find time & chance to write to you I received yours of may 2ond a day or two ago & was glad to hear from you & hear that you were all well I also got 3 from home my little boy had ben quite sick but was better he had a fever when I wrote you last I thought that we should go from where we lay to washington but instead we marched to staunton river a distance of 50 miles & then back & we have had to march all of the way here but I am in hopes that the most of our marching is done with now but can not say / any thing about it as yet there is some talk as tho we should get home before long I hope that we may for I hate to lay in camp it is not a very healthy place where there is so many you think that you would like to go East this summer I know that I should like to go north I should like to visit father & mother & those dear old hills again I have rambled over them a great many times & they seem dear to me perhaps if I should see your pararies I should like them better but I think there must be some inconveniences there that we do not have I think that the water can not be as good or wood as handy we have plenty of wood & when that / is gone we have coal handy I sertainly should like to come & make you a visit & see the country & should like to have you come to see us I may come if I get out of this if Nancy wishes to come I shall she has a sister out there & so have I & one I should dearly love to see she is getting to be old but time can onely tell my letter will have to be short to day for I have got several to write Shermans army is reviewed to day I have got through with that we was reviewed yesterday we had the right of the column in good season I hope we may have the right in getting mustered out but I do not / expect that it is pleasant weather here now it has ben very wet & the roads bad but I must hurry for I have not felt very well to day & have ben to sleep & it is getting late Heman says give you his best wishes he has gone to the City I staid to write but shall not do much at it for this is onely the second one that I have wrote to day so you will pleas excuse me for this time & I will try & do better & will write often now that I can send letters out you must write as often as you can your letters are always welcome to your old friend Dave
