September the 10th 1862
 
Dear Wife it is with the gratest of pleasure that I take the oportunity to right you a fiew lines to let you no that I am well and hope that these fiew lines may find you and the little children all well I would like to see you but I dont think that we will get any furlows but I want you to right to me we are a good ways apart but I trust our our harts are close / together I dont think that this war will last very long I am in a tent with George Teeple and Andrew Teeple James Irey Nepten and P Decker there is five of us sleeps together and twelve eats to gether. Wenman Jones is our cook there was one man died in our rigement sence we came here there has been severl sick in our company but they are all geting beter now I was out on picket gard yester day / and night before last I have not got a very good place to right. I am siting on the ground in my tent and righting on the back of my napsack I cant right very much but I will right often right soon and let me no how you are all geting along direct your letters to Camp Dunham Kentucky
