November the 6th A.D. 1862
 
Dear Companion it is with the gratest of pleasure that I take the present oportunity to right you a fiew lines to let you no that I am well with the exseption of a bad cold and I hope that these fiew lines may find you all enjoying good health Peter Wise has been sick ever since we came here there is a good many sick in camp here they have got the boys all pursuaded to drill I think that if we stay here this winter that maby I can get a furlough after while We fare very well onley it is amost to cold sleeping at night 
 
The 12 the 16 the 50 and 67 and [smudged]th Regiments are all in camp with us Hank Neel is here We got our dres coats and over coats yesterday and 1 pair of drors and 1 colord shirt today well I must quit for it is time to get redy for dres parade
 
Nothing more at present But remains your loving companion Hugh Bay

right soon and let me no whether them little children says any thing about pap
