Sept the 3 1862
Dear companion it is with the gratest of pleasure that I take the pleasure of righting you a fiew lines to let you no that I am well and that these fiew lines may find you all enjoying the same blessing we are in Kentucky one half mile south of lewisville the Ohio river is between you and me we are a good ways apart but I trust our harts are close together there is about fifteen / thousand soldiers here now We are expecting marching orders every day we are in a rebel cuntry I just came off of gard this morning and I am kind of sleepy we have to lay on the soft side of the ground I sent twenty dollars to Spilman for you I sent it by Ezreal Stacy and I want Spilman to lift them county orders for you We left indianapolis last saturday night / about ten oclock in the evening and we arived here about nine oclock on sunday morning the rest of the boys are all well we have a nuf to eat such as it is I would not wonder much if we would get in to a battle before one week
