January ^the 15^th 1863

 

Dear and beloved Wife it is with the gratest of pleasure that I take the pleasure to right you a fiew lines to let you no that I am geting right smart better I have had the diare for about four weeks but I have got it stoped now and I hope that these fiew lines may find you all enjoying the best of health I received your letter yesterday and I was very glad to hear from you and I rote you a letter yesterday and had just put it in the office about ten minets before I got yours / and I thought I would right you an answer to yours today and let you no that it comenced snowing here last night and it is still snowing yet and it is very mudy and soft under foot and it is very dissagreeable getting about and it is very cold in our tents last night and today but i think that it will soon clear off again and get pleasant I have not been on gard for about three weeks and i think that I will be able for duty in a fiew days 

 

January the 18^th 1863

well I must right a little more the snow has not all left yet and our old Colonel has got to bee General of the post and Lieutenant M^cFane has got to bee quarter master of the post and they have been discharging a good maney of the boys there is three discharged out of our Company that is Jacob Ar and Lem M^clede and Old Boner and I think that there will bee more discharged in a fiew days But I think that when I get / my discharge the war will end I would like to no how you are geting along at home now and I would like to be at home with you today but I think that the time will soon come when I will get home again we herd that there is an awful split among the sitisens of Indiana nothing more but remains your dear Companion Hugh Bay to Cordeliann Bay remember me right soon
