Dear Beloved Wife
it is with the gratest of pleasure that I take the present oportunity to right you a fiew lines to let you no that I am well and I hope that these fiew lines may find you all enjoying the best of health it comenced raining here yesterday again about noon and it is still drisling yet the Mississippi is about level with the bank on the Arcanses side and it is still raining / I sent you and Father both letters by mail this week so I haint much to right today the rest of our boys is all well but Wenman Jones he has not been very well for a fiew days we herd that Indiana and Ohio and Illinois and Pensylvania is going to seceed from the union but I think that if they no what is good for them they had better keep their shirts on but I supose such men as old Sam Kern and Hen and a fiew more would like to / see the rebels gain the day but if ever we get back they will have to dry up or there will be war at home And I believe that we will get home again spring right as soon as you get this and let me no how you are geting along right often I get a letter about every week right soon and dont forget me tell nancy Jane that pap is going to come home some day before long and fetch her some thing nice I would like to see you all very well / so nothing more at present but I remain your Dear and beloved Companion Hugh Bay to my Dear and Beloved Wife and sweet little Children
