Dear and Beloved Companion it is with the gratest of pleasure that I take the present oportunity to right you a fiew lines to let you no that I am well and I hope that these fiew lines may find you and the little children all enjoying the best of health I dont hardley no what to right this morning but I thought I would have to right something as it is sunday morning but I would like to bee at home with you today I think the time very long to see you but I cant come home til the war ends / but I hope the war wont last very long aney more and I wish it was over now right and let me no how you are geting along and let me no whether Father and Samey got the letters that I rote to them I rote you one on the 1 of this month and one on the 4 and one on the 8 and one on the 11 and this is the 15 and I got one from you this month there is nothing very partickler going on here now I have not herd from Levi for a long time I dont no what is the reason he dont right to me I rote a letter to A E C Bay but I dont no where he is / but I directed it to his Companey and Regiment I think that if our men suceeds in taking Vicksburg that it will end the war
Well I did not get to finish this letter I thought I would finish it today I had to go on gard is the reason that I did not finish it on sunday well it has rained all night last night and is drisling today Lieutenant Stoops got a letter today that his wife is dead I want you to right and let me no how you are getting along for I am afraid that you are sick or some of the children is sick I have been very uneasey for severel days / I am still well and hartey and I hope that these fiew lines may find you all enjoying the same blessing Fred Hawk and James Gaunt is on gard today tell Maranda that he is well right and let me no how your cow is geting along and where you have her now right soon so nothing more at present but I remain your Dear and Beloved Companion
