Dear Companion it is with the gratest of pleasure that I take the present oportunity to right you a fiew lines to let you no that I am well and I hope that these fiew lines may find you all enjoying the best of health it is still wet and mudy here yet There has been some trouble here with the gerilleys now for a fiew days they captured one of our steam boats about four miles above town and took the crew prisners and burned the boat they got about fifty thousand dollars and the next night our Major / took two hundred men out of our regiment and went up the river about four miles and we laid between wolf crick and the mississippi all night and garded some boats that was there but the gerilleys did not show them selves that night they keep them selves over on the Arkansas side of the river and they watch their chance and when ever one of our boats comes along after night they fier into it and make it land and fier it but today our men shelled the little town where they came up to do their mischief and set it on fier and tonight it is all in ashes I think they will / soon get tierd of their fun of burning boats that is all of that our Chaplain has been very sick but he is geting better the rest of our boys are all well at present I have not had aney letter since the 11th of this month and I think that there is some thing rong with our mail for before that I got a letter every week since we came into the fort but I want you to right and meby they will come through after while I have not here from Levi yet I dont no what is the reason that I dont get a letter from him
