Most Dear and affectionate Wife with the gratest of pleasure and much respect it is that I comence more enjoy the present oportunity of righting you a fiew lines for your sadisfaction well it has been raining here all day it comenced some time last night and it is still raining yet and my cook shanty leaks so much that I cant cook aney dinner so I thought I would wright you a letter and I dont hardley no what to right for there is nothing of aney importance going on here now but I will take my time to it and try to think of some-thing to right well Cordeli this is the 25 and I thought it was time to finish my letter Well it rained all night last night / but it has stoped raining this morning Well there was a lot of convalesents came in to the fort last night and I dont no but I think that they are going to send them the convalesents all north to their own states Well Cordeliann My Dear and beloved Wife I received your kind and much welcomed letter today and you could not imagin the pleasure and sadisfaction it gave me and I also got one from Brother Samuel that gave me a great deel of pleasure but I was very sorey to hear that Catharine was so lo I want you to right and let me no how she is as soon as you get this the rest of the boys here are / all well Well I am glad that you have got that sweet little Sarah at home with you
 
I am going to right Samuel a letter this evening well I must stop righting til tonight for I must go out side of the the fort to a garden to get some garden truck for our mess well it is going to rain and I will finish my letter and put of going out to the garden til this evening
 
Well there is nothing going on here of aney importance we have not had aney news from Vicksburg for some time well John Barkley and my self bunk together and we get along first rate /
 
Well when you right to Levi tell him that I want him to right to me I have not herd from A E Bay for about four months Well I must bring my letter to a close buy telling you that I am well and harty and I hope these fiew lines may find you all enjoying the best of health so nothing more at present
