Dear Beloved Wife
With the greatest of pleasure and much respect it is that I can once more enjoy the present oportunity of righting you a fiew lines in answer to your kind letter which I received yesterday and I was very sorey to hear that the baby was so bad I would like to come home to see you all if I could but I will have to wait til my turn comes for a furlough and they cant give aney more in our companey till A J Teeple comes back so that it will / through us all back that much longer but just as soon as I can get a furlough I am coming home to see you Well we got back off of our scout yesterday we was down in Mississippi to a little town called Hernando but we did not see aney thing but a fiew guerilleys and we captured one fine looking mair from them but we could not get within gunshot of them for they are as wild as dears one yankey can chase a dozen of them well I am on guard today and I thought I would right you a letter while I am off of guard I have to go on this evening at 8 of eight oclock again
Well the health here is as good as usual but Wenman Jones is no better yet one of my bunk mates has got the ague and he has just had a shake and the fever is just coming upon him and I am waiting on him Well Cordelia Ann I want you to right and let me no whether Andy Teeple is sick or not but dont let aney of them no it I think he is onley staying at home for a little spite work because they did not elect him for Orderley and I dont think he is fit for one Fred Hawk is well and harty well I have not much to right at present but / I will close my letter buy telling you that I am well and harty and I hope those fiew lines may find you all well again Oh I wish I could receive a letter stateing that you was all well again when this you see remember me remember me when love is sweet remember me till next we meet so nothing more but I remain your dear Companion
