Dear Beloved wife with the greatest of pleasure and much respect it is that I can once more enjoy the present oportunity of righting you a fiew lines in answer to your kind and much welcomed letter which I received last Saturday and I was very glad to hear that you was all well but sorey to hear that your cane was all spoiled and that you have such a hard time to get along
Well Cordelia I would have answered this letter sooner but on saturday evening we was ordered to the fourt and it rained about as hard as I ever saw it rain and on sunday we was ordered out of the fourt and we are now camped right on the east eand of Poplar Street and we are doing picket duty now and on sunday evening I was detailed for picket guard and I did not get in to camp until just a fiew minutes ago
Well Cordelia you stated in your letter that you had spent the last money you had to get them sweet little girls shoes well I am going to put one dollar and fifty cents in this letter and if it goes through through safe I will send you more the next time right just as soon as you get this and let me no whether you get it well Cordelia I am going to send you a ring in this letter that I made myself right and let me no what you think / of it I have not much to right at present but I must close my letter buy telling you that I am well and harty and I hope when those fiew lines comes to hand they will find you all well I was very sorey to hear that Sarah Jane is sick So nothing more at present but I remain your Beloved Companion to my Beloved Wife and sweet little children
