Dear Beloved Wife with the greatest of pleasure and mutch respect it is that I can once more enjoy the preasant oportunity of righting you a fiew lines in answer to your kind letter whitch I received yesterday evening and I was glad to hear from you and to hear that you was all well Cordelia I think the time very long to get home to see you and them sweet little girls but I am very glad to hear that they are going to school
 
well you wanted to no whether I got them socks / I got them socks and the butter and the peaches Well Cordelia I got a letter from Brother samuel yesterday and I rote him one last night he was well when he rote to me Well Cordelia I must tell you about some of the guerilley depredations that hapened hear yesterday morning there has bin a fiew guerilleys a prouling around on the arkansaw shore for some time and yesterday morning the ferimen started acrost with his fery boat loaded with pasengers and freight and just as soon as he was landed on the arkansas shore fifteen gurilleys rushed / down to the waters edg and comenced fiering at those on board the boat and the ferimen drew his revolver and discharged six loads at them and then he threw his revolver into the river and jumped in himself and after he had jumped into the water a ball pearced him and killed him instantley they then went on board the boat and cut holes in it and sunk it and then left and we have bin shelling the woods for miles up and down the river all day yesterday and last night
 
            Well Cordelia the health of the regiment is in better / health now than it has bin since we came to memphis there is but very fiew sick in the hospital Well Cordelia I have not mutch to right at present but I shall close buy telling you that I am well and harty and I hope when those fiew lines comes to hand they will find you and them sweet little girls in the enjoyment of good health so no more at preasant but I remain your Affectionate Companion
