there has ben severel soldiers froze to death on Newyears night between hear and Cairo along the river at diferent places there was six froze on iland nomber ten and some at Columbus Kentucky and some on an iland on the river I believe there was about seventeen in all that froze it is very cold standing picket guard But I am very uneasey about you I am looking for a letter from you today but the mail has just come in and I did not get aney letter it has been one week today since I got a letter from you and I think the time very long to hear from you 
 
Well Cordelia I have not mutch to right at preasant but I shall have to bring my letter to a close buy telling you that I am well and I hope when those fiew lines comes to hand they will find you and them sweet little girls in the enjoyment of good health so nothing more at preasant but I remain your Beloved Husband to My Dear Beloved Wife and sweet little girls
