Dear Beloved Wife with the greatest of pleasure and mutch respect it is that I can once more enjoy the preasant oportunity of righting you a fiew lines to let you no that I am well and I hope that when those fiew lines comes to hand they will find you and them sweet little girls in the enjoyment of good health Cordelia I have not had aney letter from you for to weeks but I dont think that the mail could come down the river for it is full of floating ice it has been very cold hear but it has moderated / and the weather for a fiew days has ben very warm and pleasant
 
Well Cordelia the 89 regt is under marching orders but I cant tell you how soon we will have to leave hear nor I cant tell where we we will go to yet some think that we will have to go to Mobeal but I dont think that we will have to go that far down the river Cordelia I think the time very long to hear from you but I think it mutch longer to see you Well if the 89 goes to Mobeal I think they will have some fighting to do but we have ben out in the service a good while without doing mutch fighting /
 
Well Cordelia I did not get my letter finished the other day and I thought I would finish it this evening Cordelia I received your your kind letter this evening and I canot express the joy and sadisfaction it gave me to hear from you but I felt very bad to hear that you was not very well Well Cordelia I have not ben on guard for better than a week but I am on duty every day I have to chop wood for the pickets so I dont get mutch time to right onley at night but I would rather chop wood than to stand guard for I dont have to be out at night /
 
the health of the regiment is as good now as it has ben since we have ben in the survice Well there was some of the new recruits came on yesterday but there was none came to our Companey Well Cordelia I have not mutch to right at preasant but I will right more the next time so no more at preasant but I remain your affectionate Companion Hugh Bay to my Beloved Wife
