Beloved wife with the greatest of pleasure and mutch respect it is that I can once more enjoy the preasant oportunity of righting you a fiew lines to let you no that I am well and I hope when those fiew lines comes to hand they will find you in the enjoyment of good health Well Cordelia I have not had aney letter from you since we left vicks burg and the time seems very long to hear from you
Well Cordelia on the 14th of this month we marched about 25 miles and comenced fighting the rebs about one hour and a half before sunset and it was at Fourt Russy on red river and agin sunset we took posession of their fourt and captured 280 prisners and 11 eleven pieces of artillery our regiment onley had 2 men killed and 7 wounded
Joseph Slady of our Companey was slightley wounded Jacob Coon of Co I was slightley wounded and Benjamine Johnson of Co H was killed / that is all that was hurt of the Adams Co boys But the balls and shells flew thick and clost the 89th was the first regt that went over their breastworks the woods and timber was all cut to pieces with canon balls there was to Brigades of our troops left hear yesterday on a scout and they have been fighting but we have not learned how they came out yet our regiment all went but our Co and Co I and we were on picket when they started or we would / have went with them
Well the weather hear for three days has ben very wet and disagreeable but it is quite pleasant today
Well Cordelia I dont get a chance to right very often but I shall right every oportunity that I get and you must right often well I believe that I have nothing more to right at preasant but I still remain
