Dear Beloved wife with the greatest of pleasure and respect it is that I can once more enjoy the presant oportunity of righting you a fiew lines to let you no that I am not very well I have had the diare for a fiew days but I hope when those fiew lines comes to hand they will find you and all the rest of the friends in the enjoyment of good health well cordelia we are now twenty miles above Alexandra in Louis La on Red River / I dont think that we will lay hear very long I think that we will go on up the river there is a part of General Banks fource that is with us now but they are going buy land and we are going on board the boats we are going to Shrieves Port that is within nine miles of the Texas line on red river and the rebs are strongley fortified there I think that we have got fources enough to whip them without mutch trouble

 

Well Cordelia I dont get a chance to right very often but I will right as often as I can / I dont no whether there will aney boat leave today or not but I thought I would right a fiew lines while I have time and have it ready to send when ever there is aney boat leaves I have not had aney letter from you since we left Vicks Burg but there has not ben aney mail sent from vicks Burg to us yet but I think we will get some mail in a fiew days Well Cordelia this is the nicest contrey that I have seen since I left home there is some of the nicest plantations hear that you ever laid your eyes on
