Dear Beloved Wife with the greatest of pleasure and respect it is that I can once more enjoy the privilige of righting you a fiew lines to let you no that I am well and I hope when those fiew lines comes to hand they will find you and the children in the enjoyment of good health
Well Cordelia I received 3 letters from you the other evening and I was very glad to hear from you But I was very sorey to hear that Nancy Jane was sick. well Cordelia you stated in one of your letters / that you had not had aney letter from me for six weeks But I have ritten every time that I had aney chance of sending them I dont want you to think that I have forgotten you for you are not of of my mind one our in a day Well I must tell you something about our fight we left hear on the 7th and marched all day and camped at night and next morning we started and marched untill dark and in the afternoon we could hear heavy canonading in the front Gen Banks had his fource in front of us and on the and the rebs had atacked him and drove him back within 3 miles of our camp that night next morning they comensed skirmishing and kept it / up all day until about 4 oclock in the evening then it comenced right and from that until dark it was one continual voley of fiering they drove the 13th and 19th Corps of Banks armey back across an open field to where our Brigade laid and our boys went in to it and our Corps drove them back over the same ground that they had drove Banks men over and at night we had them scatterd in every direction but Old Banks would not folow them up but had us to retreat back hear whear we are now But I think we will go back to Vicks Burg in a short time you will get the ball of the fight in the papers in a fiew / and they will tell all about it better than I can there was 6 killed and 49 wounded in our regiment and 3 of them wounded in our Companey that was Walace Johnson Mots Miller and Wm Gorsline well I must tell you that I am sitting buy the side of a big log in the woods on picket righting this letter
Well Cordelia I will right to you every chance that I can get and you must right as often as you can I cant tell when I will have a chance to send this but I thought I would right and have it redy so no more at preasant but I still remain your Beloved
