Dear Beloved Wife with the greates of pleasure and mutch respect it is that I can once more enjoy the preasant oportunity of righting you a fiew lines in answer to your kind letter whitch I received on the 18 of this month and I was more than glad to hear from you for I had not had aney letter from you for better than one month the rebs captured the boat that had our mail on and burnd / the boat and distroyed our mail and we could not get aney mail to go through until we got to the chapalah Buyoah then we got our mail on the 18 of this month our Brigade and one Brigade of the 17 Corps had a hard fight with the rebs they had twist the number of men that we had but the yankeys gained the day after 4 hours hard fighting and drove the rebs from the field the loss of our companey was 7 wounded and 3 killed our second lieutenant was wounded in the arm James Fravel was wounded in the hand / John L Judy was wounded in the foot Jacob Huffman in the knee Isac Berdoin in the arm Walter Trester in the leg and his leg taken off Asey Roy in the side of the neck David lewis was killed Thomas Mcowen killed Clinton hall killed that is the names of the killed and wounded of our Co
Well Cordelia I saw levi day before yesterday and they he was well their regiment has started to new orleans I wish you would right and let me no whether you got that letter that Levi and I rote to you at Alexandra / Well we are on our way up the river but I cant tell where we will stop yet well we have had some hard marching and some hard fighting to do since we left vicks Burg and we have lost a great maney good men our Orderley Sargent died on the 19 and I expect that G W Teeple will be our orderley that will set him up considerable well Cordelia I wish the war was over well I must quit I am well and hope these fiew lines may find you all enjoying the same Hugh Bay to Cordelia A Bay right soon
