June the 16th AD 1864
Dear Beloved and Affectionate Wife with the greatest of pleasure and mutch respect it is that I can once more enjoy the preasant oportunity of righting you a fiew lines to let you no that I am getting better with the exception of the diare and I hope when those fiew lines reaches you they will find you and them sweet little girls in the enjoyment of good health we are still at memphis yet but there is some talk of the regiment going out on a three or four days scout but I dont think that I will go along this time for I dont feel able to stand marching Lieutenant Blood came to the regiment this morning and I got that letter that Brother samuel sent with him this morning it was dated the 28th of April / I rote Brother samuel a letter day before yesterday and I directed it to Nashville Tennessee he stated in his letter that he had ritten five or six letters to me but I never got but one and I got that after we got back to Vicks Burg before we went up Red river and we did not get mutch mail while we was up red river for the Rebs captured a good portion of our mail between alexandra and Fourt Demsy But I am glad that we have got out of Lousiana but we dont know how long we will get to rest but I hope that we will get to rest a fiew weeks I have not had aney letter from Brother Levi since I last saw him but I am looking for a letter from him every mail I expect that he is at Neworleans that is where they started for when they left us
Well the weather is very hot and dry there is a great maney of the boys in our regiment that has the diare But I think they will soon get better if we get to lay still awhile our regiment is midling well run down I would like to no whether Kernses has ever heard aney thing from Wash since he was taken prisner I heard that David Esick was dead but I dont no whether it is true or not For my part I would hate to be taken prisner buy the rebs Well Cordelia we have not drawn aney pay yet we have ben looking for it every day for some time or ever since we came back but it dont seem to be aney nearer now than it was then / But I wish they would pay us for I would like to send you some money and but just as soon as we get it I will send you some Well Cordelia I shall have to bring my letter to a close so nothing more at preasant but I still remain your affectionate and Beloved Companion
