Dear beloved Wife with the greatest of pleasure and mutch respect it is that I can once more enjoy the preasant oportunity of righting you a fiew lines in answer to your kind and mutch welcomed letters which I received yesterday evening and I was very glad to hear that you was all well well Cordelia I have not had aney chance to right to you nor to get aney letters from you since the 4th of July we left Lagrange on the 5th of July and we have marched about 2 hundred miles since we left Lagrange and we just got back to memphis yesterday / and on the 14th of July we had a fight with old Forest at Tupelo Mississippi and after about 3 hours hard fighting we drove the rebs and took severl prisoners and their loss in killed and wounded was very heavy while ours was very light we onley had one man slightley wounded in our Co that was Jacob Meyer he had a very slight wound on the side of the head Well Cordelia we have not had mutch rest since we left Memphis last spring and I think in the course of a fiew days we will have to start again but where to I cant tell
I have not had aney letter from Levi yet I cant tell what is the reason that he dont right I got a letter from Samuel yesterday they are guarding the railroad from Steavison to woodville in Alabama and Albert is at Huntsville Alabama Samuel was well and harty when he rote to me
Well Cordelia I would right more about our march but I think you will get the hole of it in the papers more corect than I can right it it will be in the Decatur eagle Capt Hill is is righting for the decatur eagle the rest of the boys are all well onley they are / all we are all nearley worn out with marching through the dust and hot wether the weather has been very hot and dry
Well Cordelia I must close buy telling you that I am well and harty onley my feet is midling sore and I hope when those fiew lines comes to hand they will find you and them little girls in the enjoyment of good health so nothing more at preasant but I still remain your Beloved Companion
