Dear Beloved Wife with the greatest of pleasure and mutch respect it is that I can once more enjoy the preasant oportunity of droping you a fiew lines to let you know that I am well and harty and I hope when those fiew lines comes to hand they will find you and them sweet little children in the enjoyment of good health Well we are at memphis yet and I hope we will get to remain hear a while but I cant tell whether we will or not there has ben some talk of us having to m [paper cut away] / the weather hear is very hot and dry Cordelia I wish I was at home this harvest I would like to help you eat some of them mealons water mealons hear sells from $1.50cts up to 2 dollars and 2.50 but I dont like melons that groes in this contrey for they taste to mutch like green back Butter is 75cts per pound Eggs is one dollar a dozen and every thing else in proportion New potatoes is four dollars a bushel rosten ears 75 cts a dozen But the soldiers cant eat sutch things hear for they dont taste good when they [paper cut away] / home they would taste about as good as they used to But I hope that the time is not far distant when this rebellion will soon come to a close and when we can eat our own grub and live without eating unkle sams rotten sow belley and hard tack
Well Cordelia I have comenced righting it has comenced raining a little but I dont think it will rain mutch but it makes the air considerable cooler Oh I wish I was at home with you today while it is raining But then [paper cut away] / that is all that I have to right at preasant so I will close so nothing more at preasant But I hope still remaining
