Dear Beloved Wife with the greatest of pleasure and mutch respect it is that I can once more enjoy the preasant oportunity of righting you a fiew lines for your sadisfaction Well Cordelia we left Memphis yesterday morning about 9 oclock and we got to Lagrange about noon but we did not stop their more than about twenty minutes and we got hear about 4 oclock in the evening we are now at Holow springs we came all the way through on the cars But I cant tell how long we will stay hear we may have to leave hear to day yet or maby we / we may get to lay hear to or three days it is hard to tell nor I cant tell where we will have to go to yet we are 80 miles from Memphis buy way of railroad and 40 miles acrost buy land
 
the rebs about hear are scarce there is a fiew about 15 miles from hear out on the natchez river but we can soon clean them out our men are still repairing the railroad yet there was a squad of our Brigade went out foraging today we have plenty of rostenears and apples and the peaches the peaches are just getting good now but the mealons are about played out But I would like to be at home to help you eat your mealons now 
 
I have not had aney letter from Levi since I sent that one to you that I got from him nor I have not had aney letter from Samuel for some time But I am looking for one every day the rest of the boys from our settlement is all well
 
Well Cordelia I wish I was at home with you to help you eat your mealons for we cant eat mealons hear unles we hook them for you cant buy one as big as your fist for les than 75 cts Well Cordelia I have nothing mutch to right at preasant But I must quit righting and get dinner / So I will close
