Dear Beloved Wife with the greatest of pleasure and mutch respect it is that I can once more enjoy the preasant oportunity of righting you a fiew lines to let you no that I am well and harty and I hope when those fiew lines may find you and them little girls in the enjoyment of good health Well Cordelia we got back to memphis yesterday evening we was out about 15 miles on the other side of the Talley hatchey river to a small town called Oxford we burnt / the depo and the principal part of the town and then we was ordered back and while we was going out old Forest slipped around got in our rear and made a dash on Memphis but without doing mutch damage Well Cordelia we did not get to stay at Lagrange but a fiew days after I last rote to you but I dont think that we will stay hear very long but I cant tell where we will go to but I hope they will let our regiment go home this fall 
 
Well Cordelia I think that we will get our pay before we leave hear again and just as soon as we draw our pay I will send it to you I was very sorey to hear that you had the toothache so bad and that you have sutch a hard way of getting along But Cordelia I hope the time will soon come when I can get home once more to stay at home with you Well Cordelia since I comenced righting this letter we was mustered for our pay I think that we will get our pay in the course of one or to weeks but I cant tell sertain /
 
Well Cordelia we had no fighting to do of aney account we had some light skirmishing after we started back the rebs folowed us back as far as the Talley Hatchey river and when we went into camp they rished in and shot a fiew rounds but they were soon drove back and they lost severel men killed and wounded but we onley had some three or four men killed on this raid
 
Well Cordelia there is to letters in the office for me and I sent with the chaplain this after noon for them and just as soon as I get them I will finish my letter But I will have to finish on another sheet of paper
