Dear Beloved and Affectionate
With the greatest of pleasure and mutch respect it is that I can once more enjoy the preasant oportunity of righting you a fiew lines for your perusal Well Cordelia it is about 2 oclock and it is thundering and it looks as if we was agoing to have a very hard rain and the wind is blowing midling hard I got very lonesome setting hear in my dog house and I thought that I could spend a fiew minutes in righting to you But Cordelia I would rather and mutch rather be at home where we could see each other and converse with each other face to face / and Oh how well I would like to see them sweet little girls Well Cordelia it is getting so dark in my shanty to see to right so I will stop until the rain is over
Well Cordelia this is the morning of the 24th I did not get to finish my letter yesterday evening for it kep raining until after night so I thought I would finish it this morning but it is has cleared of and it is quite pleasant this morning there is still strong talk that we will get to go home and still feel in hopes that we will the talk is this morning that we will moove to another camp today and I hope we will for the hole Brigade is camped together hear / and if we our camp the regiment will camp separate and it will be mutch nicer than to have so maney camped together the second Brigade is going to leave hear today but where they are going is more than I can tell But there is no Indiana nor Illinois troops in the second Brigade they are a most all Iowa troops and they can vote in the field But the Indiana and Illinois troops canot vote unles they can get home to their own state Well Cordelia I must bring my letter to a close buy telling you that I am well and I hope those fiew lines may find you / and the children in the enjoyment of good health Give my best respects to Father and mother so nothing more at preasant But I still remain your
