September the 29th A.D. 1864
Camp near Jefferson Baracks, Mo.
 
Dear Beloved Wife with the greatest of pleasure and mutch respect it is that I can once more enjoy the privilige of righting you a fiew lines to let you know that I am well and harty and I hope when those fiew lines comes to hand they will find you and them little girls in the enjoyment of good health
 
Well Cordelia I have just finished my breakfast and I thought that I would right you a fiew lines to let you know where we [paper fold] at Jefferson Baracks we landed hear on the evening of the 19th it is a very nice place hear to camp but the contrey hear is very mountainous and rockey 
 
well there is some of the boys getting ready to go up to St Louis today but I am agoing to wait a fiew days yet and when I go I want to go with some that will keep sober and behave them selves well Cordelia the weather hear is considerable cooler hear than what it was at Memphis we could sleep there very comfortable under one oil blanket but hear we can sleep under to woolen blankets and not sweat abit
 
Well Cordelia I have ben looking for a letter from you for several days but I have not received aney letter since I came hear but I think that I sertainley will get one tomorow You dont know how glad I would feel to get a letter from you and to hear how you are getting along 
 
Well Cordelia I comenced righting this this morning but before I got it finished I was detailed for fatigue duty and had to quit until this evening the reast of the boys are all well and harty I have not had aney letter from Levi for a long time nor I have not heard from Samuel nor Albert for a long time nor I have not had aney letter from Wooster for about six weeks
 
Well Cordelia I would like to know how mutch wheat Father is [?] out this fall and how his leg is this summer Well Cordelia I will not finish this until morning for it wont go out until 2 oclock tomorow and I will finish it in the morning so Good night Oh how I wish I was their to see you tonight 
 
Well Cordelia this morning I thought I would finish my letter I have just finished my breakfast and got the dishes washed well Cordelia the talk is very strong that we will get to go home this fall to vote and I think that if old general Price keeps out of Missouri that we will but if the rebs makes a raid up through Missouri this fall we wont get to go home well Cordelia I have nothing more to right at preasant so I shall bring my letter to a close so nothing more at preasant But I still remain Your Beloved
