Camp Jackson Near St Louis
 
Dear Beloved Wife with the greatest of pleasure and mutch respect it is that I can once more enjoy the preasant oportunity of righting you a fiew lines to let you know that I am well with the exception of a bad cold but it is not mutch wonder that we have the cold for we are laying out in the open field without aney tents and we onley get about to cords of wood a day for the hole regiment and it is so cold that water ice will freeze a half an inch on a bucket of water in a half an hour But I think that we will leave hear in a day or to / I think that we will go down the river But where we will stop is more than I can tell But when you right direct your letters to St Louis until I right to you again But I dred going down the river for it will be so cold and we will have no fire atol well Cordelia we got our pay yesterday and we onley got to months pay and I sent you 35 dollars and that onley left me one dollar and I took 75 cents and bought me a pair of gloves so I onley have 25 cents left I sent it buy express in care of Jessey Niblick I would like to have sent you more if I could but I did not have aney more to send 
 
Well Cordelia I dont think that our Division will get aney reast this winter but I am very glad that our time is getting short we onley have 9 months to serve yet Well Cordelia I want you to right as often as you can and I will do the same But when we are out on a rade we cant get to right mutch but I will right every chance I get I want you to right me a letter just as soon as you get this letter and let me no whether you got your money yet there is some men that sends home more money than I do but I cant tell where they get and they spend more money hear than / I do but if I ever get home I can give you a history of the way some of them gets their money But I dont a word said until I get home but I dont want you to think that I spend my money foolishley but Beloved Wife I must close but I hope that when those fiew lines comes to hand they will find you in the enjoyment of good health so nothing more but I still remain your Dear and affectionate Companion
