My Dear Parients,
Yours of the 21st I recieved this morning. It is strange you have not recieved any letters I have written since we came to this place. I have written four or five times. I wrote for some money to pay for a pair of boots I bought when we first came here and I hope you will have recieved it before this reaches you. I wanted 3 dollars then but now my money is gone entirely. the boots cost 5 dollars. We do not live so well here / as we did in Stevenson but can buy of the commissary if we have money. we will not be paid now untill March. then I hope to send home some. I wrote for a watch also if you will send me one I will send the money to pay for it when we get paid. I am on guard every other night and have to borrow a watch of some of the boys. Send me a good writing case silver capped patent lever watch several of the boys have had them come from home. But send me the money first if conveniant. The weather is warm and pleasant. I went to the creek this morning / stepped off all my clothes and had a good wash. I wonder what Dwight and Dennis would think to go in swimming the last day of Jan /64 Farmers have commenced plowing and it is quite springlike I sent you a letter a few days ago with four of our best Generals photographs in it. Write if you get it. I closed off my last letter in a hurry for the rain was coming as it is now so I will stop. Mr Bolton of Portland went past here on a train with a lot of mechanics going down somewhere to work But I cant write / more now for I have not time write soon I recieved Mr Wilcoxs letter yesterday
