John I. Kendall to Cornelia E. Foy, 15 November 1863
Let Beauty be my theme

            To Miss Cornelia E. Foy

Thy beauty not a fault is there
No queen of grecian line
Ever braided more luxuriant hair
On forehead more devine

The light of midnights starry heavens
Is in those raidiant eyes
The roses crimson life has given
Thy cheek its glowing dye

Music in thy voice sweetly blest
and on thy brow of sculptors mould
No shade, no clouds of sorrow rest
But all is bright and fair as summer

But fairer still and brighter far
Than all thy beauties raidiant light
Is thy purity of mind fair star
Of brightest lustre in innocence and might

Your friend
