My dear Son
I received letter last mail and I assure you that I was very much relieved for I saw from the papers that you were fighting. I cannot express in words my thankfulness to our heavenly father for his kind care of you and Willie and still trust in his all wise providence for a continuation of that care that been shown you all the times. My emurgencies just now are very great but I feel that god will show me some way to provide for my wants, but all is dark now. Mr Shannon is kind enough to let me have meal and pay him as I get the money. I now owe him $67 dollars. I keep Mamie & Kate plating hats and I sew them we get $10 but the great difficulty is to get suitable plametto. Anola is staying with Jennie while her Aunt is absent, she will has been go 2 weeks at this time will be return in about 10 days more as she left to be gone 3 weeks. I getting quite anxious to have her home again Jennie came for her. Lizzie S— writes that she has been quite sick again, if could see had the means to entertane she I would send for to spend some time with us but should dislike very much not to be able to give her nothing but bread for that all we have. dont think I am complaining for we all keep well and I am satisfied Mrs John Smith recived a letter from her husband in Havanna. he had just returned from Galveston, Texas. he said that your father was in prison there as a spie for the Yankees. he did not know it but a few / moments be fore his vessal left port, but that the vessal would return right away to Galveston and he would do all he can to get him reliest. The question with me how did your father get there or what took him there, for his being a Yankee spie I do not belive it that possiable, for he would not be a spie for either side much less the Yankees. Anola has not recived the writing paper that you got Lizze to send by mail. I hope that you have gained the confidence of Willie for know that is the only way to keep him out of temptation. do try to get him to keep with you and your assocates as much as possiable. did Mrs Snider say any thing to you about her house when you saw her last. she gone to New Orleans by way of Handnburrough her heard her husband was there. We all send a great deal of love to Willie and you tell Willie to write to me as soon as he gets a chance. Write often for I am all anxiety for you both. I do not think it worth while to write to B E Gray for I think that your father once ask assistance of him and he did not replies but any of the soldiers from brother Washington neighbourhood write to him in my name and I know that he will send me means, or write me if there is chance for a letter to go though and I will write to him. I wrote to sister Lizze 3 weeks ago about my situation but have recived no answer. May God continue to protect and Willie from all harm my daily prayre.
