Jennie (?) to John I. Kendall, undated
My dearest Irwin
Though with very little hope of success I attempt writing you before the soldiers who have been ordered away leave. I was fast asleep when Sargt Mr. Rogers came in this morning and my first thought was Oh! if I had written to Irwin yesterday, though it was Sunday believe me darling had I suspected such an event as their being ordered away so soon you would have revelled in a long letter at least. Now Irwin let me exculpate myself the Wednesday after you left I received your note of the 7th I replied to that by Friday's mail & wrote again by Tuesday's then let Saturday elapse received your two letters dated 13th & 15th by that mail no other mail will leave here until tomorrow I do not think you will ever have cause to complain of my not writing often I shall hereafter write by every mail unless sickness prevents.

I cannot express my disappointment at your not receiving my letters it exceeded mine at not receiving yours for I knew very well you would write the first opportunity but knowing your, shall I say exacting nature, where you love I feared you would think me negligent. & beside after I sent off the first I was almost sorry I had not written another but I'll wait almost with trembling to know your opinion. You ask to be / reassured of my love could you see me almost worshipping your photograph you would know how fondly how passionately how selfishly you are loved. Love you Oh! Irwin yes; with all my heart I cannot help it & do not try to for if to love is such bliss tis worth a lifetime service to know that you are loved again. I received the Lady of Lyons but will reserve my opinion to send off with tomorrow's mail. I must close now or my feelings will run away with my pen the end will be worse than the first.

Good bye my love

Aunt sends love.
