Dear Ari
I received your letter from Little River to day I have just come in from picket and set down to answer it but I will tell you the news first. I am well as usual and you would think that I enjoyed my self if you could have been on picket with us. we made a little boat and loaded it with coffee and newspapers and sent it across and the rebs sent it back with tobacco and a Richmond Inquire. so we / followed it untell the oficers of boath sides stoped it. I dont think we shall move at presant it is so aufull muddy. we had a tough snow storm last wednesday the 28th it snowed all of two nights & one day as hard as I ever saw it but it is all most gorn of. it is very warm to day like April at home. I wrote to Father last week. tell Atwell that I got his States & Union to day and allso tell him that thoes letters in it are as true as the Bible the most of them for I have seen it and know them to be so. Hooker is not / wounded nor been in battle sence that of Fredericksburg. we should have had one if it had not been for the rain and mud tell Mother not to worry about me for I get along firstrate it dose not frighten me one bit to have them call for us to fall into a line of battle but you would laugh to see some of the boys. I would not feel as thay do for a farm. but thay cant help it I dont suppose.
I wrote you that you might send me that box but I see you have not received the letter yet. when you go / home you may send me one if the express will put it through send me a pair of stout boots No 8 tell the shoemaker you want army boots. I am not particular about the looks of them if thay will wear well. send me some stockings and salt fish and black peper if you send any thing to eat send what will keep the best. doe nuts &c—get an order from the expres man and send to me so that I can get the box. have you got yor ten dollars yet I have been paid of for one month and shall be two more soon so look out.
give my Love to all of the folks boys and girls
kiss Elmer for me good by
